The Craft Room is a purpose built studio sitting at the top of a lane above Lavenham, It is constructed from hempcrete, has recycled glass insulation and plenty of natural light. It is a very tranquil place to work, with good views no traffic and plenty of bird life.
The Craft room has underfloor heating, a woodburner, an oven, fridge, and a shower room with toilet there is plenty of parking.
This is where I hold my workshops, I also rent out the space and host workshops for other crafts
Willow weaving
At the beginning of the year, I cut and stack my willow and hazel , I then hold workshops working with the bendy green willow. I offer workshops in plant supports, nestings balls and trellis screens, later in the year I forage and work with hedgerow and garden materials to make random weave baskets, headdresses, wreaths, and simple bramble baskets. I enjoy the process of working with green foraged materials and love following the seasons.
Pottery
When not weaving I turn back to clay, my passion is stoneware clay, raw fired using glazes I make from our wood ash. My pots are functional, I design them to be used for food and around the house, they can go in the oven and on woodburners, they are once fired to 1250 either in the electric kiln or occasionally the gas kiln. I also make hearts for oil, and incense burning and to hold smudge sticks. I hold creative clay workshops to enable creativity and to just have fun and enjoy the tranquility up here.
Growing with nature in mind
I offer 2 hour workshop to share my passion for growing organically using a no dig method, this includes vegetables, flowers, herbs and fruit I mix them all together in my garden, we are slowly introducing more diversity in the grass that surrounds us, we have planted hedges, had the pond renovated, have 2 green roofs and a reed bed . I also save seeds, freeze my surplus, and create compost . Please contact me if this interest you.
Craft Room reviews
“I jumped at the chance to attend one of Sue’s clay workshops with some friends and have to say I thoroughly enjoyed every minute. So much so that I enrolled my mum and I onto the very next workshop Sue was running, which was random weave nesting balls
On both occasions Sue was there to greet us on our arrival with a warm welcome and a cup of tea as we settled in. I felt instantly at ease in the surroundings as we were introduced to the materials and the techniques we would be using. At lunchtime, Sue and her husband provided a lovely homemade lunch of soup with bread, cheese, hummus etc, followed by tea or coffee and cake. Each workshop was small and intimate (up to 5 or 6 people) which meant that we all had the opportunity to engage with each other and be guided by Sue and her knowledge.
In the afternoon, we continued working on our creations while Sue provided further information about the crafts. At the end of the day we headed home feeling very chilled and happy with our creations. The workshop is in a lovely position, which all adds to the relaxed atmosphere and feeling of ‘getting away from it all’ if only for a few hours…”
I look forward to attending more workshops!
Thanks again and all the best,
